Excess Fabrication Adhesive Clean Up-
It is recommended to mask off areas adjacent to hull attachment points, accessory location points, seams and fabric reinforcing strips, ect. to minimize post fabrication adhesive clean up and provide quality fabricated product. Excess UR 5208/CAT UR adhesive mixture and FA 1076 adhesive should be removed immediately before drying to avoid difficulty in removing as cure progresses. A clean soft cloth saturated with toluene can be utilized to remove excess adhesive extending beyond the attachment point. Extreme care should be taken to avoid damaging the fabric coating which can occur through the use of excessive contact time and pressure when cleaning with toluene.
It is highly recommended that before using toluene for cleaning, an inconspicuous spot be tested on the boat to potentially avoid damaging the fabric coating.
Fabrication Dirt/Grease and Grime-
Generally, dirt, grease or grim from the fabrication operation can be removed through the use of commercially available inflatable boat fabric or vinyl cleaners. In the case of excessively stubborn dirt, a mildly abrasive cleaner like Clorox “Soft Scrub” can be used to remove these types of dirt. Care should be taken to avoid excessive pressure when cleaning with abrasive cleaners to avoid producing dull areas .on the fabric coating surface. It is highly recommended that before using any cleaning agents, an inconspicuous spot be tested to evaluate suitability, to potentially avoid damaging the fabric coating.
